Day 2 | Orienteering

08 | 04 | 2025

A captivating exploration of cultural heritage, modern photography, and artistic innovation led by Lidija Pajevikj and Robert Jankuloski.

Held at either the Multimedia Center “Mala Stanica”, the day fostered meaningful engagement among experts, students, and art enthusiasts. The day began with an insightful session led by Lidija Pajevikj on the protection of old photographs, emphasizing the importance of preserving historical memories.

This was followed by an exclusive guided visit to the exhibition “Bitola via Debar – The Photographic Work of Zafir Oshavkov,” where Robert Jankuloski introduced attendees to 30 rare photographs taken between 1930 and 1945, developed from original glass plate negatives. The exhibition provided a rare glimpse into Oshavkov’s modern artistic vision and his contribution to Macedonian photography.

Following discussions resumed with a compelling keynote on the impact of artificial intelligence on photography led by Robert Jankuloski. This session engaged participants in exploring AI’s influence on visual storytelling and artistic integrity. A dynamic open discussion allowed participants to exchange ideas, pose questions, and define work tasks for upcoming collaborations.

The tasks followed the three case study topics:

  • Transforming the Macedonian Center for Photography into a Museum of Photography
  • The Use and Misuse of Artificial Intelligence in Photography
  • Digitizing Old Photographs and Photographic Materials

The evening fostered further connections and cultural immersion, beginning with dinner and networking and culminated in the exhibition opening of “Forms in Flight” at the Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje. This prestigious showcase premiered works from internationally renowned artists from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon, including Jasmina Cibic, Daniele Valle-Kleiner, Ange Leccia, and Shuruk Hriesch. The exhibition provided a fresh perspective on artist migration and cultural exchange, inspiring discussions on cross-border collaborations and artistic mobility.

The second day of the Cultart PRO Project: Orienteering proved to be an engaging and thought-provoking experience, successfully bridging historical preservation, contemporary art, and the evolving role of technology in photography. With rich discussions and inspiring exhibitions, it reinforced the significance of dialogue and cultural cooperation in the artistic sphere.
